Two-way wooden pallets are also known as stringer pallets. Because it uses "stringers" to support the unit load. It can be lifted from both the front and rear sides using lifting tools such as hand jacks or forklifts. A 3 part frame is used for building, which are top deck, stringer and bottom deck. When specifying stringer pallets, the stringer's length is noted first, and the width or length of the duckboards is noted second.
Block pallet is a true 4-way pallet that use blocks of solid wood to support the unit load. Typically, block pallets use four to twelve blocks to support the top deckboards. It can be easily lifted in all four dimension (front, back, left, right) using lifting tools such as fold-lift and hand jack.
Curiously enough, between the blocks and the deckboards are thin stringers. Which form a mat with the deckboard. Block pallet can be designed with or without bottom deckboards, or a full perimeter base.
What is Heat Treatment?
Heat treated pallets are often referred to as HT pallets, yet the concept remains the same: Heat treatment is a method of sterilizing the wood to remove all hazardous materials, thereby making the pallets safer and better suited for shipment. The process involves heating the pallet to a minimum core temperature of 56°C (132.8 °F) for at least 30 minutes.
What is ISPM 15?
International Standards For Phytosanitary Measures No. 15 (ISPM 15) is an International Phytosanitary Measure developed by the International Plant Protection Convention (IPPC) that directly addresses the need to treat wood materials of a thickness greater than 6mm, used to ship products between countries. Its main purpose is to prevent the international transport and spread of disease and insects that could negatively affect plants or ecosystems. ISPM 15 affects all wood packaging material (pallets, crates, dunnages, etc.) and requires that they be debarked and then heat treated or fumigated with methyl bromide, and stamped or branded with a mark of compliance. This mark of compliance is colloquially known as the "wheat stamp". Products exempt from the ISPM 15 are made from an alternative material, like paper, plastic or wood panel products (i.e. OSB, hardboard, and plywood).
